Doors open for Life of Riley Creative Café Sessions

Posted on Posted in Events, News, Workshops

The new year has kicked in at Gainsborough [art]works with an exciting range of opportunities to get involved in quality creative activities on your doorstep. In addition to our workshop programme, we are opening our doors every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12-3pm for a new series of themed Creative Café sessions in our Life of Riley workshop on Gaol Road.  Each day an artist with specialist skills will be on hand to make you unlimited cups of tea and coffee, chat about your artwork and share opportunities, show you basic techniques or help with your computer issues. These can be about anything from digital art and improving your website to photography and drawing, printmaking or community arts projects.  If you need more intensive tutoring or a specific class we can also point you in the right direction to a session that might suit you or if possible will put one on especially.

Our regular Life of Riley Art Café will continue on the third Thursday of the month from 7-9pm and includes talks by artists sharing their knowledge. On February 18th its all about sharing how you sell your work, whilst on March 17th Rachel Marsden, a transcultural curator with significant experience of working with Chinese communities shares her blog writing and online curating knowledge. This year we are expanding the success of the Art café into a Life of Riley Writers’ Café on the first Thursday of each month, the first one being on 5th February at 7pm.  We want to encourage budding and experienced writers, poets and spoken word artists to get together in our inspirational venue to support each other and create a new series of events open to the wider community.

We hope that lots of new connections will be made through meeting other like-minded creatives in our Café series, or that they encourage you to take up that activity you’ve always promised yourself time to do!  If you’d like to suggest future classes, talks or events we’d love to hear from you. We want share all the creative energy we know is out there in the area to create our own cultural oasis right here in Stafford. It can only happen if you join in!
